OUR SCIENCE

A careful look at peptide science.

A scientific rationale built around egg-derived hydrolysate peptides and iron, with clear limits on the evidence.

Peptides and formulation research.

PepFerrin™ is an egg-yolk phosvitin-derived peptide formulation platform. Phosvitin is a naturally occurring highly phosphorylated egg-yolk protein; research has examined how smaller phosphopeptides may interact with minerals, including iron. Product-specific molecular characterization and human transport mechanisms require additional validation.

Samaraweera et al. (2011), Journal of Food Science, reviewed egg-yolk phosvitin and functional phosphopeptides. The publication does not constitute a clinical trial of PepFerrin™ or Ferravitin™.

Classify the evidence, then discuss it.

Established iron physiology

DMT1-mediated ferrous iron uptake and ferroportin export are established aspects of human iron metabolism.

What we know so far

Early uncontrolled observations support further investigation of PepFerrin™. BioScience Global is preparing a controlled clinical study with a BC research partner to evaluate iron absorption and clinical outcomes.

Laboratory research

Caco-2 cell studies may explore cellular iron handling. They do not independently establish clinical absorption or efficacy.

Human observations

A historical internal nine-person uncontrolled report is documented, but it cannot demonstrate clinical superiority or predict outcomes for current formulations.
